About Us

poetry gabriola logo The Poetry Gabriola Society values risk, innovation, and adventure. We have provided a forum for great poetry and extraordinary performance since the year 2000, and are committed to a culturally diverse program and artistic excellence.

Poetry Gabriola provides support and opportunities for local and regional artists who work with words. We offer grants, book launch support, readings and professional artist’s fees to local writers and performers. We also invite artists of national and international renown to present their work in our island community, which in turn offers them the unique experience of intimate venues, a dedicated audience, and a pastoral setting.

PGS currently produces a seasonal reading series, Open Mic events, The Foun 10 of Uth Youth commissioning and mentorship series, and the ongoing QR Anthology project. Events run from workshops, cabarets, film screenings, site-specific productions and performance art events, all year long. We have presented poets, storytellers, songwriters, string ensembles, musical improvisers, historians, and rock stars, as well as practitioners of spoken word, sound poetry, hip-hop, poly-vocal collaboration and haiku. There is little we shy away from if it is text-based and compelling.
