The 2012 Festival has wrapped up...
Thanks, everyone, for a fantastic festival! We're all tired and glowy, and dealing with tidy-up, but we'll be posting photos, updates, and videos soon.
Check back in a few days for more, thanks.
In the meantime, flap on over to Corvus Magazine to check out some new work!
Poetry Gabriola - For Everyone!
On Saturday, February 18, and Sunday, February 19, enjoy Knock-Knock, Who's There?, a FREE, site-specific, multi-artist event designed to take place in the 11 tiny cabins on the oceanside grounds of the Dragon's Lodge. From 12:30pm until 2:00pm, the audience is invited to fan out into the forest and start knocking on cabin doors. Each of the 11 cabins will be occupied by one or more artists ready to have a close encounter. Poets, spoken-word and performance artists, musicians, and even an occasional juggler collaborate to bring you Gabriola's most complex knock-knock joke. This FREE family-friendly event was a huge hit last year, featuring amazing performances that were poignant, funny, and surprising.
Poetry Gabriola at the Gabriola Elementary School
One of Poetry Gabriola's favorite creative partners is the Gabriola Elementary School. The two organizations have collaborated on projects like Joelle Anthony's Creative Writing Residency, as well as bringing writers and performing artists into the school whenever we can. This year Poetry Gabriola will present two fabulous events at the Gabriola Elementary School. GES students will join Barbara Adler and her band FANG in an interactive workshop and performance that is all about writing animal poems. As well, students will have the chance to see Nova Scotia poet and singer-songwriter Tanya Davis in performance and will be able to ask her questions about her creative practice. Thank-you to the Gabriola Arts Council for contributing towards the Poetry In The School events.
